Running Shorthand on Windows VistaTM
If you are new to Shorthand:
You should use Shorthand Version 10 on Windows XP, Vista or Server
2003.
You should use Shorthand Version 9 on Windows
2000, NT, Me, 98, 95.
If you own a Shorthand 8 or 9 License:
You might be able to make Sh8 or Sh9 partially work on Vista if:
- You run Sh8/Sh9 as administrator
and
- You run Sh8/Sh9 in
"Windows XP Compatibility Mode"
However, Sh8/Sh9 still has the following major problems on Vista:
- The Sh8/Sh9 installer sometimes hangs or reports errors when installing to Vista.
- The Sh8/Sh9 help function will NOT work in Vista (you get a message stating
that
Microsoft no longer supports WinHelp) so you will not be
to access any of the
Sh8/Sh9 help documentation.
- Under certain circumstances, if you are logged in as a non-administrator,
Sh8/Sh9 hangs when you attempt to exit Shorthand.
Shorthand 10 is designed for Vista
The new Shorthand Version 10
addresses the above problems and runs natively in Vista
(no need to set the compatibility mode and you can use Sh10 as a
non-administrator).
Sh10 can read your Sh8/Sh9 word lists (copy your Sh8/Sh9 .spf files
from your old computer
to your new computer then
choose OPEN from Sh10's FILE
menu to load in your Sh8/Sh9 word lists).
Sh10 comes with a free 30 day license.
If you wish to keep Sh10, you will need to
purchase a license.
We offer a discount for licensed users of previous versions
of Shorthand;
if you had purchased Shorthand before please
follow the upgrade instructions.
NOTE: Please make sure Shorthand works
properly on your computer before purchasing
a license as
NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN once a license has been issued.
