How to Move Shorthand Dictionaries to Another Computer

Here's how to move your Shorthand dictionaries to another computer:

On your old computer:

  1. Attach a USB Flash drive to your computer.

  1. Start Shorthand.

  2. Press F10 to bring up the Shorthand window.

  1. Verify that the word list you want to copy is displayed in the Shorthand window.

        If it's not showing the correct word list, choose OPEN from Shorthand's FILE menu

        to open the word list you want to copy.

  1. From Shorthand's File menu, choose "Copy To" and select the USB Flash drive as the destination. (Make sure you select "Copy To" from the File menu. Do not use the "Save As" command.)

In the "Save in" drop down box, navigate to the USB flash drive (normally this is the D: or E: drive).

Click SAVE.

  1. Safely disconnect (eject) the USB flash drive from your computer.

On your new computer:

  1. Attach the USB Flash Drive to your computer.

  1. Start Shorthand by double-clicking on the SH Desktop shortcut.

  1. Press F10 to bring up the Shorthand window.

  1. Choose Open  from Shorthand's File menu.

In the "Look in" drop down box, navigate to the USB flash drive (normally this is the D: or E: drive),

A list of the word list (.spf) files will be displayed. Select (click on) the .spf file you had saved from your old computer (step 5 above).

Click the Open button. You should now see your words in Shorthand.

  1. Choose SAVE AS from Shorthand's File menu  and save the word list to your C:\Sh10 folder:

In the "Save in" drop down box, navigate to the C:\Sh10 folder

Click SAVE.

Your word list is now saved on the hard drive of your new computer

and you may disconnect (eject) the USB flash drive.
